Partnership in the Gospel: Purses - Phil Kendon
Partnership in the gospel includes the idea of financial partnership as we seek to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth and to build healthy church communities where people can grow in their faith. We learn from Philippians that even financial partnership is from the heart and with an ease that is free from pressure and from unreasonable expectation.

1. God provides for his work
2 Corinthians 8:14–15 (NIV)
14 At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is equality, 15 as it is written: “The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.”
- God provides for his work and we do his work with what God provides.
- Whatever the amount, it is enough for the work.
- When we trust God, we feel no obligation nor resentment.

2. Churches support the global mission
Philippians 4:15–16 (NIV)
15 Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; 16 for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need.
- From the moment a church is planted, it is part of the mission.
- God uses the church to spread the message.

4. There is a reward for participating in God’s work
Matthew 6:19–21 (NIV)
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 19:21 (NIV)
21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
Luke 12:33–34 (NIV)
33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
- When you make an investment, you expect a return.
- Our return is not in this world.
