Sermon Title: Love and Marriage
Sex was created by God and should be enjoyed as God intended.
"Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." - Genesis 2:24
This verse establishes that physical unity belongs in the context of a permanent, committed union.
Jesus affirms this Genesis foundation, stating, "So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate". - Matt. 19:4-6
The Context for Physical Intimacy:
"But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband." - 1 Corinthians 7:2
Paul identifies marriage as the proper boundary for fulfilling sexual desires.
"Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, 'The two will become one flesh.'" - 1 Cor. 6:16
Using the "one flesh" concept to show the spiritual weight of sexual acts.
The Sanctity of the Marriage Bed:
Hebrews 13:4: "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous."
This highlights that sex outside the boundaries of marriage is considered immoral.
Sex should be celebrated, regularly, in the context of marriage.
Marriage is meant to be mutual, not selfish
Physical intimacy in marriage is spiritual as well as relational
Don’t blame your spouse for your lack of sexual integrity.
“Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.” - 1 Corinthians 6:18
4th point on singleness, which we will talk about in the coming weeks: “God gives different callings to different people”
