The Song of Solomon celebrates romance as something good, joyful, and God-given. This book is about King Solomon and his peasant girlfriend who eventually became his bride. It flows through all the typical phases of a relationship. You're going to see this couple go from attraction to what we would call dating, to courting, to the wedding, to the honeymoon, to a fight because that's how life is. They fight after the verse on the honeymoon! They make up and then at the end, once they get past all the conflict, they go to a deepening of the relationship. Welcome to the Song of Solomon!

INTRODUCTION
Love, romance, and the honeymoon are so intoxicating. We don’t care about dishes in the sink, hair in the drain, or laundry piled up. We don’t think about meal-prepping and bill-paying and snoring. Marriage is incredible when you realize it’s the workroom where God wants to do something in you that is bigger than your marriage. That something bigger usually comes through conflict.

Relational paradise gets interrupted by real-life unfulfilled expectations in SoS 5:2-8. It’s life after the honeymoon in a fallen world. The bottom line is this: conflict is going to be a part of your relationship - two imperfect individuals in a flawed world. There has never been a disappointment-free marriage. Unmet expectations are common in a fallen world. But, your marriage is worth fighting for.

A healthy marriage grows when unmet expectations move us to reopen the door through conversation rather than retreat into resentment. Turn expectations into conversations instead of resentments.
