A SPECIAL MESSAGE: WHEN GOD NEEDS A VOICE
Welcome! We are so glad you are here with us as we worship this Sunday. Whether you are visiting for the first time or have been part of our church family for years, we pray you feel encouraged, refreshed, and blessed during today’s special message. May this be a time of joyful worship, meaningful fellowship, and drawing closer to God together.
WHEN GOD NEEDS A VOICE

The Courage, Wisdom, and Perseverance of Nathan the Prophet

2 Samuel 12:1–15

INTRODUCTION
There is a man in the Old Testament who appears only in a handful of scenes, never leads an army, never writes a psalm, at least not one attributed to him, never builds a temple, and never sits on a throne. But this man, this one quiet, courageous, Spirit-filled man, changed the entire trajectory of Israel's royal history. Twice.
1. THE COURAGE TO CONFRONT

Stand When It Costs You Something.

2 Samuel 12:1–7 Nathan then said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘It is I who anointed you, king over Israel, and it is I who delivered you from the hand of Saul.

Is there a David in your life that God has been nudging you to confront?

How We Implement Point One in Our Daily Lives
1. Identify the truth you've been afraid to speak.
2. Pray before you speak.
3. Speak to the person, not about them.
4. You are not responsible for the outcome. You are responsible for the obedience.
2. THE WISDOM TO SPEAK WITH STRATEGY

Bold, But Not Reckless — Respectful of Authority

2 Samuel 12:1–3 Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And he came to him and said, “There were two men in one city, the one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had a great many flocks and herds. 3 But the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb which he bought and nourished; And it grew up together with him and his children.

Biblical boldness is not the same thing as biblical recklessness. Truth spoken without wisdom is a wrecking ball. Truth spoken with wisdom is a scalpel. Both make contact, but only one heals.

How We Implement Point Two in Our Daily Lives
1. Choose the private conversation before the public confrontation.
2. Ask God for wisdom in your method, not just your message.
3. Lead with a question when possible.
4. Maintain respect for authority even in disagreement. Pray for your leaders (1 Timothy 2:1–2).
3. THE FAITHFULNESS TO DELIVER THE FULL MESSAGE

Don't Preach Half the Gospel

2 Samuel 12:9–10 Why have you despised the word of the Lord by doing evil in His sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. 10 Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’

How We Implement Point Three in Our Daily Lives
1. Refuse to preach only the parts of the gospel that are comfortable.
2. When someone repents, offer grace immediately and completely.
3. When speaking the hard truth, include the redemptive path.
4. Be prepared for consequences to coexist with forgiveness.
4. THE PERSEVERANCE TO STAND AGAIN

1 Kings 1:11 Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, “Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king, and David our lord does not know it? Now, Nathan could have stayed home. He was old. He had already had his great moment thirty years earlier. He had done his job. Surely one confrontation with a king is enough for one lifetime.

Courage Has No Expiration Date.

How We Implement Point Four in Our Daily Lives
1. Don't let past courage excuse present silence.
2. Work within the structures available to you.
3. Remember that your faithfulness today is connected to a future you cannot see.
4. Persevere in your calling even when the opposition is institutional.
