Love Made Complete
Eddie Warren
1 John speaks clearly on what it means to be a Christian
Love God
Obey His commands
Connect 1 John 1:8 with 1 John 2:4
• In 1:8 we learned that the denial of sin is evidence that truth is not in a person
• Now in 2:4 we learn that the denial of obedience means the same thing. Truth is absent.
• To know of vs. to know
Knowing God is evidenced by our desire to obey Him

“It is another question whether our society wants to hear such absolute commands. We have built a world based on free choices, not obedience. We have viewed love as attraction, which, when the feeling passes, may be directed elsewhere. We rarely hear calls for obedience and love as work. In each case such calls may cost me my freedom. They may limit my spontaneity. They may put boundaries around what I can and can not do.” - Gary Burge

• Growing in the love of God is accomplished by our decision to obey
the commands of God
v.6- Consider the life of Jesus

"The first thing about a Christian is initiation into Christ. The next thing is imitation of Christ. We cannot be Christians unless we are in Christ, and we are not truly in Christ unless the life of Christ is lived over again by us as we are able. We certainly have not had the purpose of God fulfilled in us unless we have been conformed to the image of His dear Son." - C.H. Spurgeon

• Is your perception of “faithful living” dictated by the societal norms? Or by the life and teachings of Jesus?

• The danger of Counterfeit Christianity

• Does your day to day life mirror His? Sacrificially, selflessly, humbly, simply, relationally
