1) What does the Bible say about our conscience?
Our conscience can be:
· Stricken/Guilty (1 Sam. 24:5, 2 Sam. 24:10, Hebrews 10:22) – ARGUES AGAINST US.
· Weak/Defiled/Wounded (1 Cor. 8:7-12) – DAMAGED
· Seared (1 Tim. 4:2) – DESENSITIZED
· Corrupted (Titus 1:15) –THROUGH UNBELIEF
· Stricken/Guilty (1 Sam. 24:5, 2 Sam. 24:10, Hebrews 10:22) – ARGUES AGAINST US.
· Weak/Defiled/Wounded (1 Cor. 8:7-12) – DAMAGED
· Seared (1 Tim. 4:2) – DESENSITIZED
· Corrupted (Titus 1:15) –THROUGH UNBELIEF
THE GOAL: CLEAR CONSCIENCE (Acts 23:1, 24:16, 1 Cor. 4:4, 1 Tim. 3:9, 2 Tim 1:3, Heb. 13:13, 1 Peter 3:16, 21) – NOT PERFECT, BUT OPEN.
2) How Do We Keep Our Conscience Clear?
-- Guard our gates.
- Eyes – What we’re looking at
- Ears – What we’re listening to
- Hearts – Our appetites and desires
-- Confess when we make mistakes.
- Secrets and unconfessed sin fill us with guilt and shame. Short- tempered/harsh people often compensate for guilt.
-- Stay humble and holy.
- A pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.
