True Worshippers
John 4:19-24
Pastor Jerry Koller
After she came to the conclusion that Jesus must be a prophet, she makes a statement to Him that reflects her understanding of worship.
The place of worship is not as important as the parameters of worship.
It’s not the location that is important.
• What is important is who you worship.
What does this mean? Spirit is an immaterial part of man.
“The word spirit in verse 24 refers to the human spirit, the inner person. Worship is to flow from the inside out. It is not a matter of being in the right place, at the right time, with the right words, the right demeanor, the right clothes, the right formalities, the right music, and the right mood. Worship is not an external activity for which an environment must be created. It takes place on the inside, in the spirit.”
Not only must we worship God in spirit, we must also worship Him in truth.
Truth is a necessary ingredient in worship because truth is part of the nature of God Himself.
How do we worship in truth?
We must worship ‘The’ Truth.
We must worship in light of Truth.
We Must Worship Truthfully.
Worship will fall into three categories.
Private Worship is what takes place between you and God.
Public Worship is what takes place in the general area of life.
Corporate Worship is what takes place when the Body of Christ gathers together for the purpose of worshipping God as one.
Private worship is not a group activity. Public worship is not a group activity. Corporate worship engages other individual worshippers to participate.
APPLICATION
To worship in spirit and truth, We must worship ‘The’ Truth.
To worship in spirit and truth, We must worship in light of Truth.
To worship in spirit and truth, We Must Worship Truthfully, for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

National Day of Prayer: 5/7

As our country and citizens get ready to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of our country, communities all across our country will be celebrating with a National Day of Prayer. This day of prayer has deep roots in the history of the formation of our nation. During the revolutionary war, the Continental Congress issued a proclamation for prayer, and in 1779 George Washington declared a national day of prayer too. Beginning in 1952 with President Truman, and later firmly established by Congress, the first Thursday in May would be set aside for communities to hold a National Day of Prayer. South Haven has a long tradition of celebrating this day of prayer, and everyone is invited to join us in front of City Hall at 12 noon on Thursday, May 7, as we pray for our country and all aspects of our communities.

We will have a church workday on Sunday, May 14, following worship until 3:00pm. Lunch will be provided. Dress for the weather as we'll work both inside and outside. Please sign-up in the foyer so we know how much food to order.

Special Business Meeting: 5/24

We will have a Special Business Meeting on Sunday, 5/24, immediately after worship to vote on Abigail Bocock to serve as an Elder. If approved, she will also begin serving on the EMT.

Abigail Bocock is a middle school special education teacher at Saugatuck Public Schools. Born and raised in South Haven, she has a deep love for her community and the people in it. After completing college in Wisconsin, Abigail felt called to return home to serve and invest in the next generation of students and families.

Her faith journey has been an important part of her life, shaping her perspective and deepening her desire to serve others with compassion and purpose. She is passionate about encouraging others, building strong relationships, and living out her faith in everyday life. Abigail values prayer, community, and helping create a welcoming place where people can grow in their walk with God.

Attention Graduates | Graduation Sunday, 5/31

As we prepare to recognize our college and high school graduates this year, we want to be sure that we don’t miss anybody. If you will be graduating, please contact the church office by Sunday, 5/24. Also, if you let us know when your graduation open house is, we would be more than happy to publish it in upcoming announcements. We are planning to recognize our graduates during the morning worship service on Sunday, 5/31. For questions or more info, contact Kim in the office.

Summer Camp Scholarships Needed

At this time, we have 8 kids attending Lake Ann Camp this summer. A week of camp costs $600-700. If you would like to support a summer camper, scholarships are now being accepted. Partial scholarships are fine, every dollar helps! Please be sure to mark "Summer Camp" in the memo. Thank you!

Hearing Assistance Devices Available

We have hearing assistance devices available during the morning worship service which allow the user to control the volume based on their individual needs. They are available from the Sound Booth at the rear of the sanctuary and are cleaned and sanitized after each use. For questions, see Rocky Starland.

Have You Considered?

Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ‘bill payment’ through your bank? This is a convenient option to help with continuity in giving and the ability for you to tithe even when you are on vacation or miss church. It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! If you have questions or would like more information about how to utilize this convenient option, check with your banking institution or contact the church office.

Pop Cans = Scholarships

Don’t forget that your beverage can & bottle donations are used to fund teen scholarships for youth retreats, summer camps, special activities, etc. Please bring your recyclable items to the church anytime!
