1. Jesus says He uses parables both to reveal truth and to conceal it. What does this teach us about the condition of our hearts when we approach God's Word?

2. In the parable of the hidden treasure, the man responds “in his joy.” What does that reveal about true salvation, and how does it challenge the way people often think about following Christ?

3. Comparing the treasure and the pearl, what similarities do you see in the responses of the two men? What might be different about how people come to recognize the value of Christ?

4. Jesus compares the kingdom to a net. What do we learn about the kingdom from this parable? How have you seen this principle displayed?

5. Jesus says those who understand the kingdom are like a master who bring out “what is new and what is old.” What does it look like in practical terms to both treasure the gospel personally and actively share it with others?

6. Have you read any biographies (or watched a movie) about people who have, in the eyes of the world, made a tremendous sacrifice for the cause of Christ? If so, who did you read about? What was their story?
