We are in a series called Fifth Gospel. We are familiar with the first four: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. We are actually the Fifth Gospel, by the way we live our lives.
Have you ever felt weird having a faith conversation with someone? Having those conversations can feel weird but they are absolutely critical.
5 Ways to Talk About Jesus Without Being Weird
1. Start Small - Be genuinely interested in the person. People are not spiritual projects. We share our faith because we want something ofr someone.
Pew research shows that 70% of American say they are spiritual in some way. The biggest barrier to sharing faith is not openness, it is initiation. Many people are open but we fear to start the conversation.
Colossians 4 tells us the progression of faith haring: Pray > Opportunity > Conversation
2. Ask Qualifiying Questions - Sometimes people are not clear about what they are asking. You may agree with their objection or they mean something different than what you think. Ask clarifying questions.
3. Share Your Current Testimony - People want to hear how your faith is impacting your daily life low, not sometime in the distant pass. When we are vulnerable about our struggles and successes and how your faith made a difference, people are open to hear it.
4. Share a Resource - Here's a couple ideas:
- Gear Up: Wear a Christian t-shirt or shirt of your church.
- Share a social media post that speaks to you.
- Get Carded - Take a business card invite to church so you are ready.
- Welcome to the Neighborhood - 50-80 families move into Loudon County per month. Take a box at the church and invite them to church.
5. Make a Warm Invitation - A warm invitation is a personal, relational, thoughtful invitation to church or an event at your local church. Jesus made such an invitation in John 1:37-39, "Come and See".
Challenge
We need to be bold in sharing our faith, inviting people to Christian community because it is better in your life now and eternally to be connected to Christ. How will you respond?
