Big Idea: You cannot work up love for God. But a person who has truly encountered forgiveness doesn’t need to, it overflows on its own.
1. The Size of Your Love Reveals the Size of Your Debt
Your devotion will always be calibrated to your perceived debt.
Self-righteousness shrinks your capacity to love God.
The most dangerous place to be is not deep in sin, it’s thinking your sin is small.
2. You Can Do Everything Right and Still Miss the Whole Point
Simon had Jesus in his house…but not in his heart.
Religious correctness and genuine encounter with grace are not the same thing.
Religious correctness and genuine encounter with grace are not the same thing.
You can be externally correct and internally disconnected.
Performance spirituality produces people who do all the right things and feel almost nothing.
3. You Can’t Manufacture What Forgiveness Produces
When the flask breaks…the oil spreads.
It is possible to invite Jesus into your space and still not give Him your life?
We want to be seen with Him, but not shaped by Him.
We want the benefits of God without the surrender to God.
We want a seat at the table, but not a cross to carry.

We want a seat at the table, but not a cross to carry.
You cannot experience the fullness of God while resisting the transformation of God.
Some people want to be caught up in the air, but don’t want to be set apart on the ground.

NEXT STEP
This week: Read Psalm 32 slowly — out loud if you can. Then find one opportunity to express gratitude to God or to another person in a way that feels slightly excessive. Not because it is required. Because you want to practice what this woman modeled.
