Start talking:
• Have you ever been a “fan” of something without being deeply committed? What did that look like?
• What’s the difference between casually liking something and fully committing to it?
• Who is someone you would describe as truly committed? What stands out?
• When you hear the word “disciple,” what comes to mind?
Start Thinking:
• Why might “Are you a Christian?” be the wrong or incomplete question?
• Why do you think many people stop at being “fans” of Jesus?
• What does Jesus mean when He says, “If you hold to my teaching…”?
• How is Jesus’ definition of “truth” different from how our culture uses the word?
• What’s the connection between obedience and freedom?
• Why do people often want the “benefits” of faith without the commitment (the “if without the then”)?
Start Sharing:
• Where do you see yourself in the crowd right now: listener, fan, or disciple? Why?
• What has helped or hindered your grow in your faith up to this point?
• Are there any teachings of Jesus that you struggle to fully follow?
• What does it look like for you personally to “hold on to” Jesus’ teaching?
• Have you experienced freedom in an area of your life through following Jesus? What changed?
• Is there an area where you want Jesus as Savior but struggle to make Him Lord?
• What would taking the “next step” in your faith look like right now?
Start Praying:
• Thank Jesus for offering true freedom through salvation
• Ask God to reveal where you are in your faith journey
• Pray for a deeper hunger to follow Jesus fully
• Ask for strength to hold on to His teaching
• Pray for a heart of surrender and obedience
Start Doing:
• Honestly identify where you are: listener, fan, or disciple.
• Take one clear step forward this week (faith, obedience, surrender).
• Choose one teaching of Jesus to intentionally live out this week.
• Spend time daily in Scripture to better understand His teaching.
• Practice loving God and loving others in a tangible way this week.
• Surrender one area of your life where you’ve been holding back.
