2. Fruit of pride
a. Boasting
b. Boasting in the sinner
c. Misapplied love
3. Foundation of mourning
Key Theme:
The Church’s tolerance of unrepentant sin undermines its identity as God’s holy people and damages its witness to the world.

Key Application:
Christians, as the Church, must not ignore or normalize sin; instead, they should confront it with genuine grief, humility, and a desire for restoration never boasting in good things as justification for sin.

Key Verses:
1 Corinthians 5:1-2 “It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father’s wife. And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.”

Key Questions:
1. Why might a church be tempted to tolerate obvious sin within its community in todays context?

2. What are some modern examples of “boasting” or pride that could cause a church to overlook sin?

3. How can constant exposure to sinful behavior in culture affect how Christians respond to sin in the church?

Give Online

Church family, we praise God for how faithfully in so many respects you give. Our church family is undeniably generous, but we still have great needs for supplication. We ask that you give joyfully, faithfully and sacrificially in response to how our great God and Savior has given to us.
