Trumpets | Text: Leviticus 23, I Corinthians 15
ESV - Colossians 2:17, These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.
KJV - Colossians 2:17, Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Leviticus 23:23-25, And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with blast of trumpets, a holy convocation. 25 You shall not do any ordinary work, and you shall present a food offering to the Lord.”
Joel 2:1, Blow a trumpet in Zion; sound an alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming…
I Corinthians 15:51,52, Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.
I Thessalonians 4:16-18, For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
Big idea: Get ready for God to show up.

1) Live a life of contemplation.
“The Feast of Trumpets presents an opportunity for profound spiritual introspection. The resonant sound of the shofar serves as an evocative call, prompting self-examination, repentance, and renewed dedication to spiritual growth.”
- Dr. Eitan Bar
Hebrews 4:9,10, So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.
- Enter into God’s rest by faith.
Romans 3:28, For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.
- Live a “quiet” life before the Lord.
I Timothy 2:2, …That we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
- Meditate on the things of God.
Psalm 63:6, On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.
- The enemy of contemplation is distraction.

2) Live a life of expectation.
Daniel 2:21, He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings…
Mark 13:35-37, “Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”
Philippians 1:6, I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
