https://www.rockpointechurch.org/openingdoorsThe early church had to decide how do we make Easter last? Of all the possible choices, the church practiced the Lord's Supper as a primary way to encounter Jesus and nourish their faith. The Corinthian church had distorted the heart and soul of this practice, and the Apostle Paul saves his harshest pastoral criticism for practicing the Lord's Supper in an unworthy manner.
Receiving the Lord's Supper Worthily
------------
1. Remembrance:
- The Greek word for remembrance is anamnesis. It's the opposite of amnesia, but more than mere recollection.
- Worthy Remembrance is re-calling, re-connecting, and refreshing the Jesus' promises made in the past.
- Christian Remembrance means recalling the PAST in the PRESENT so that it shapes the FUTURE.
2. Responding:
- The Lord's Supper is more than a walk down memory lane. There is meaning in what we do with the bread and wine.
- When we take and eat, we are reminded that the life and power of Jesus is something we invite, digest, and internalize.
- Old prayers of the church include this line: Take and eat this in remembrance that Christ died for you, and FEED on him in your HEARTS with thanksgiving.
3. Re-VIEW:
- The Lord's Supper not only effects my soul but changes my frame of reference.
- The Supper is something we do together as a faith family, and it refreshes how we see and think of one another.
- You have never met anyone for whom Christ didn't die.
