"They wanted to stone Jesus, but they had to settle for crucifixion. They wanted to kill Jesus themselves, and yet they had to involve Rome. Annas wanted to compel Jesus to incriminate Himself, and instead, Jesus indicted the high priest for wrong-doing. Pilate wanted to find a way to make the 'Jesus crisis' go away, but he did not succeed. Strange as it may seem, at the cross of Calvary, it was only our Lord who got His way." Growth Group Discussion & Personal Reflection Questions:
1. In verse 36, Jesus says that his kingdom is "... not of this world." How does his kingship/kingdom differ from worldly power? Does this have implications on how we view leadership and authority today?
2. In verse 37, Jesus says, "Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." What do you think Jesus meant by "the truth"? How might this relate and/or challenge Pilate's question - "What is truth?"
3. Today, truth is often argued to be subjective or relative. Do Jesus' words speak to this?
4. How do you determine what is true?
5. How does the Gospel of John answer the question, "What is truth?"
6. How can that answer help us today?
