Pilate Before Jesus: Here Comes the Judge!
John 18:29-19:16
To judge is to make a decision with regard to the moral or ethical condition of someone or something.
When we look to judge another, are we seeking the kingdom truth especially where there is a moral underlying the issue? Or do we seek some version of the truth that supports our own thinking, ideology, passion, prejudice or even politics?
The exercise of authority in God’s Kingdom isn’t earthly, physical domination. It is something else altogether. It is intercessory and it seeks the well-being of another.
A person “of the truth” is a person who really values truth. It is only a person who values truth that can really receive truth.
Jesus has dominion and authority but refuses to dominate as He is about to actually judge Pontius Pilate.
In this actual judgement, Pilate finds no sin in Jesus but Jesus finds sin in Pilate.
In the trial, Jesus is the defendant who becomes the prosecutor who becomes the judge and yet is never legally convicted of the crime for which He is executed.
In refusing to act in His own interest even to the point of death, Jesus is establishing Himself as worthy to judge the whole world.
When we inevitably judge others as Christians, the worthiness of our judgement is measured by our love of the truth and our love for those whom we judge.
2 Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? So if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! 1 Co 6:2-3
Salvation Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for drawing me to Yourself from my darkness, my sin, and my shame. I repent of my sins, and I ask You to forgive me. I welcome You into my heart, and I surrender my future into Your hands. Guide me by Your Holy Spirit, and help me to be a reflector of Your light to those around me. Thank You for including me in Your family. Amen
