Jesus’s death on the cross was about even more than just saving me from my sin.
Jesus Disarms the Powers
● Colossians 2:13-15: Jesus came to not only save us, but to disarm the powers.
● Galatians 1:3-4: Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross moves us from one age to another.
● Romans 5:21: We are moved from an age dominated by sin, fear, death, and Satan into His Kingdom of grace, mercy, power, and love.
Sin as a Power
● Sin was a power before it was your personal mistake.
● We bought into the lie that serving ourselves (and ultimately the enemy) was a good idea.
● Sin isn’t just something you do; it’s a power you’re under.
● Luke 4:18-19: We need to be set free. It’s a jailbreak!
The Coronation of The King
The King returned and, rather than using a show of force, He sacrificed Himself.
“The cross is the place where the decisive battle between Christ and sin took place, where the powers of Satan brought all their strength to the attack, and where they were defeated.”
— Lesslie Newbigin, Sin and Salvation
On the cross was the beginning of Jesus’s reign as King of Creation.
The Unfolding Victory
Why is there still darkness?
● Defeated powers still seek compliance.
● Darkness will still try to get you to believe and live out the lie.
● The victory is unfolding. Jesus told us that His Kingdom is like a mustard seed or yeast in dough—slowly spreading.
● It is here, but still coming more in it’s fullness. Now, but not yet.
Saviour and King
● You can decide if you want Him to be your Saviour.
● You cannot decide if He is King of all.
● If you decide He is Saviour, you are also acknowledging that He is the King.
Life in the Kingdom
What does it look like to live in His Kingdom?
● Matthew 5:1-10: Jesus told us what the Kingdom dwellers look like.
● The victory is unfolding, and God is choosing to use His people to revive His world.
Will you participate, or will you let fear hold you back from choosing the sacrificial WAY?
