When you’re tired, stressed, or really hungry, what’s your go-to weakness?
What stands out to you most from this passage about Jesus’ temptation? Why do you think that part grabbed your attention?
Jesus responds to every temptation with Scripture. When you’re under pressure, what’s your typical response — fight, flight, fix, freeze, justify, distract, pray, other?
The enemy tempted Jesus in areas of need (bread), authority/power (kingdoms), and identity (“If you are the Son of God…”). Which of those categories do you find yourself most vulnerable to right now — need, control/power, or identity? What does that look like in real life?
The same situation can be both a temptation from the enemy (to harm) and a test allowed by God (to strengthen). Can you think of a season in your life that felt like a temptation but later turned out to be a defining moment that grew your faith?
Hebrews says Jesus can empathize with our weaknesses. How does it change your view of God to know that Jesus understands temptation from experience, not just observation?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You that You understand our weaknesses because You have been tempted in every way, yet without sin. Thank You that we do not face our struggles alone. Help us to rely on Your Spirit instead of our own strength. Give us courage to resist temptation when it comes. Redirect our hearts and minds toward Your truth. In moments of weakness, remind us that You are a God of grace. Give us mercy where we’ve failed and strength for what lies ahead. Make our tests defining moments that shape us more into the image of Jesus. We trust You. Amen.
