Relational Roadmaps: Good and Godly Parenting
Parenting is a high calling from the Lord and we’re to aim at being a good, healthy and godly parent in the raising of the next generation. The Scriptures are filled with wisdom to guide us as we invest in our children and trust them to the Lord’s guidance. We’re to intentionally pass along the faith, to protect and encourage them in pursuing God and becoming the full version of themselves that God intends. Never stop growing as a parent and never stop investing in your children.

https://elementscitychurch.snappages.site/prayer-request=Training is more than just showing or eluding too occasionally, hinting at…training is active participation with them…helping them learn, practice, and develop habits…training involves consistency, repetition, serious investment.
→ YOU are a trainer! – investing into them – and the Bible (over and over) calls us as parents/grandparents (and adults) to be trainers on every level…
Truth: you will be a spiritual influencer one way or another…there is no neutrality when it comes to God & faith…(either you’re nudging them TOWARD God or AWAY from God through your habits, actions, words and behaviors)
JOSHUA 24:15
“...But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

*through the lens of Scripture: Parents are the Primary Disciple Builders
Live your life as an ARROW — pointing toward God….as a parent ask God to show you ways to always be pointing toward Him and his ways — point his ways out to your kids …not to beat them over the head, but to direct the attention of their Heart/MINDS to see how active and involved God truly is!
Point out God’s activity, His truths, His character, His faithfulness…make it a normal part of everyday conversations and discussions.

*Key reminder:
Parenting is about controlling investments, not outcomes.
You can control how and what you invest into your children; but we can’t necessarily control the outcomes (especially as they age).

MODEL your faith…to pass on the faith
More is caught then what you’re taught (especially in the early years)
One of the fastest ways to drive children away from God is say one thing and live another. <Internal family heresy> where your life doesn’t match your actions - (your walk doesn’t match your talk) *see Mark 7:6
model repentance and forgiveness
model love
model serving
model godly habits/practices
model prayer
model, model, model -- never stop growing your faith, in order to pass it on

Give kids room to GROW…
Don’t let them RISK TOO LITTLE
Don’t RESCUE TOO QUICKLY
— consequences are a great teacher - don’t rob your kids of the lessons they can learn…and be shaped by, through them. understand our reaping/sowing reality to life (Galatians 6:7).
We often get caught up, trying to work for our kids happiness, and almost worship at the altar of their happiness.
But maybe we should worry a little less about today’s happiness and focus a little more on tomorrow’s readiness.

Discipline to mold character not just modify behavior.
Discipline flows from love, not anger.
You should read all of Hebrews 12:4-11
vs: 6-7
For the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”
As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father?

Give your kids the blessing of earning the blessings.
we don’t want to reward without them earning it. In a reaping/sowing world - we want to teach that sowing (hard work) works and pays off (blessings).
We love our children for WHO they are!
We praise our children for WHAT they’re doing…working toward.
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
We have a God-given responsibility to be parents who train their children.
We train - we make the investments. We can’t control outcomes; but we can trust that our investments and aiming the direction of their lives will have influence on the destination ultimately. But we have to, in the end, trust outcomes to God…

Parenting transitions to supporting - with your adult children
We don’t raise them to stay - we raise them to leave. That’s the aim/goal!
Support mainly looks like: cheering, comforting, coaching.
PRAY for them (and yourself)
Remind yourself: the Holy Spirit didn’t retire when they turned 18.
Choose relationship over being Right!
Grieve quietly, don’t panic loudly.
*remember: Parenting is about controlling investments, not outcomes.
Romans 12:15
Rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn
practice this verse all the time. live it out.

We don’t raise children to orbit our lives when they’re adults.
We raise children to follow Christ with their lives - wherever He leads.
Healthy and godly parenting prepares them to thrive in homes you won’t live in, marriages you won’t control and seasons you won’t oversee.

*remember:
Parenting is about controlling investments, not outcomes.
We choose to intentionally make the best investments we can make - over the long haul and we TRUST GOD with the outcomes. The same God who has been active within your life, loves your child more than you and will remain active today and on into the future.
Pray the priestly blessing over your kids...
