What to expect at the Harbor!

What is it like? You can expect to be greeted upon entering, if you have questions, feel free to ask our friendly greeters.

What about my kids? There are several different classes for children (ages 4-12). There is a nursery, (The Cry Room) for the younger ones in our sanctuary in its own separate room where you can still enjoy and hear the service.

Where do I park? Parking is in front of the church with dedicated handicap parking spots closest to the entrance. We also have overflow parking on the gravel next to the church sign.

What do I wear? We are informal so what you wear does not matter to us — you will see folks dressed up, wearing casual clothes, or even shorts and a tee shirt.

How can I get connected? You can fill out one of our orange connections cards to get connected to any one of our ministries.

Additional info? We have self-serve Panera bread, muffins, bagels, coffee, and tea. You can enjoy your breakfast in the open cafe area or bring your breakfast in our cafe style sanctuary. We open the bread and coffee bar at 10:30am.

THY KINGDOM COME

On this second Sunday of Lent I pray all of us are discovering ways to begin to break through to the Other Side. This will not be done by showy prayers (Matt 6:5-6), nor long winded prayers (Matt 6:7-8), but by simple, thoughtful, heartfelt and concise prayers such as the one Jesus shared with his disciples and with us. The first phrase is intimate invoking “Our Father” (Matt 6:9)…and then leads to this phrase “your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matt 6:10)
Many understood this kingdom to be political, a power grab of sorts.
The crowds (Jn 12:12-13; Jn 6:14-15), the disciples (Lk 6:13-15; Matt 16:22-23; Matt 20:20-21) and the current religious and governmental authorities (Lk 23:1-2).
But Jesus wanted no temporal power (Matt 4:8-10), but rather a kingdom based upon serving, giving, love and mercy (Lk 22:25-27). This kingdom was near (Mk 1:14-15) within our midst or maybe even within us ourselves (Lk 17:20-21).
It was a kingdom we can’t see and comes from the King we can’t see… but it is transformative and fulfilling…God’s plan for each of us.
Showy Prayers
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Matt 6:5-6
Long-Winded Prayers
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matt 6:7-8
How to Pray
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,” Matt 6:9
Kingdom Come
“your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matt 6:10

Blessed is the King
The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!” Jn 12:12-13

King by Force
After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.” Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself. Jn 6:14-15

Calling the Twelve
Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons. Lk 6:13-15

Peter
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me;
you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” Matt 16:22-23

James and John
Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.
“What is it you want?” he asked.
She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.” Matt 20:20-21
Two Activists
Simon the Zealot
Judas Iscariot

Claims to be King
Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate. And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.” Lk 23:1-2

Satan’s Greatest Temptation
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Matt 4:8-9

Jesus’s Response to Satan
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” Matt 4:10

Servant Leadership
A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among
you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.
Lk 22:25-27

Not My Will
“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
Lk 22:42

Kingdom is Near
Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” Mk 1:14-15
Kingdom in Our Midst
Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesu s replied,
“The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say,
‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.”
Lk 17:20-21

Kingdom is Within
“The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” Lk 17:20b-21 NKJV

Kingdom is Coming
Some of the Pharisees asked Jesus, “When will the kingdom of God come?” Jesus answered,
“God's kingdom is coming, but not in a way that you will be able to see with your eyes. People will not say, 'Look, here it is!'; or, ;There it is; because God's kingdom is within you.”
Lk 17:20-21 NCV
