Misfit Mindset. Focus on the Path.

Misfit Mindset. Focus on the Path.

“Misfit Mindset” is a series about embracing the bold, countercultural life Jesus calls us to live. Scripture teaches that we are no longer of this world—we’ve been called out of darkness, given a new identity, and invited to think and live differently as citizens of God’s Kingdom. In this series, we’ll explore how following Christ reshapes our mindset, transforms our behavior, and empowers us to stand out in a world that often pressures us to fit in. Like Peter, whose identity changed when he recognized who Jesus truly is, we discover that knowing Him changes everything about everything. As God works in us—giving us both the desire and the power to do His will—we learn what it means to live as holy misfits who reflect His Kingdom in every part of life.

(Psalm 143:10 NLT) Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.
[John 14:6 NLT] Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
[Romans 12:2 NLT] Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
[Mark 12:29-31 NLT] Jesus replied, "The most important commandment is this: 'Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. 30 And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.' 31 The second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' No other commandment is greater than these."
[Deuteronomy 6:4-9 NLT] "Listen, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone. 5 And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. 6 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. 8 Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
[Romans 8:6 NLT] 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

* Thinking about Romans 12:2, how are you intentionally shaping your mind to stay aligned with Jesus? What practices or rhythms help?

* What does it look like for you to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength (Deuteronomy 6:5-6)? In what ways is this command challenging? What mindset is necessary to obey this command?
