Listening to Jesus is how we live by faith and avoid being dumb.
The Transfiguration is not primarily about Jesus becoming something new.
It is about the disciples briefly seeing what has always been true.
It is about the disciples briefly seeing what has always been true.
Listening to Jesus does two things…
IT KEEPS FEAR FROM MAKING YOU DUMB
Fear makes you talk when you should be listening. Peter is not evil, and he’s not trying to sabotage anything; he’s overwhelmed.
o Fear makes you do stupid things.
o Fear makes you reach for shortcuts.
o Fear makes you grab the steering wheel.
– But listening to Jesus keeps fear from making you dumb—because it puts the steering wheel back where it belongs.

When fear hits, do you listen to Jesus… or do you start building structures for your safety and comfort?
Listening to Jesus does two things…
IT HELPS YOU UNDERSTAND GOD’S WILL BY FAITH
The future is revealed as a way of orienting the disciples for the crisis they are about to face – they only get that revelation when they listen.
The command “listen to him” subjugates every other authority. This one is subtle, but it’s huge for our world. The command to “listen to him” quietly diminishes every other authority — religious, political, moral, and cultural.
Listening to Jesus helps you understand God’s will by faith, because Jesus tells you what’s coming—even when you don’t like it.
Three ironclad rules of getting a Holy Spirit nudge / listening to God:
1. God will never guide you in any way contrary to the clear commands of His Word to you.
2. Your regular submission to Him in obedience is a major factor in whether or not you can hear him clearly.
3. Prioritize the voices of those who are equally yoked in discipleship.
