What’s a defining moment in your life — a turning point that shifted something in you or changed your direction? What made it so significant?
(If helpful: Was it something big and public, or small and personal?)
(If helpful: Was it something big and public, or small and personal?)
When you picture the scene of Jesus being baptized, what stands out most to you and why do you think that detail matters?
Why is it important to not let people get baptized by doing cannon balls?
Baptism became the defining symbol of following Jesus. What do you think it communicates about a person’s identity and direction?
Jesus didn’t need repentance, yet He chose to be baptized. What does that decision reveal about His character and His mission?
Baptism is both deeply personal and publicly visible. Why do you think God designed faith to be something we declare openly rather than something we keep entirely private?
If baptism is both identification and declaration, what does it look like in everyday life to publicly identify with Jesus in the way you live?
Closing Prayer
Father, Thank You for sending Your Son and for publicly declaring, “This is my Son, whom I love.” Thank You that through Jesus’ blood we have redemption and forgiveness. Jesus, thank You for the picture of stepping into the water — not because You needed cleansing, but because we did. Thank You for identifying with us so that we could be made new in You. Holy Spirit, help us live lives that reflect what we declare. Give us courage to obey, humility to follow, and boldness to publicly identify with Jesus. If there is a defining moment You are inviting us into, give us the faith to say yes. Help us trust You. Amen.
