(Genesis 3:1 NLT) The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the LORD God had made. One day he asked the woman, Lie #1 "Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?"

(Genesis 3:2 NLT) "Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden," the woman replied.

(Genesis 3:3 NLT) "It's only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, 'You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.'"

(Genesis 3:4 NLT) Lie #2 "You won't die!" the serpent replied to the woman.

(Genesis 3:5 NLT) Lie #3 "God knows that Lie #4 your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil."

(Genesis 3:6 NLT) The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.

(Genesis 3:7 NLT) At that moment their eyes were opened, and they Lie #5 suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.

Step #1 -- Questions the truth of God's Word.

We buy the lie...

Lie #1 -- God's Word isn't totally true.

God's Word certainly calls me to a place I have not reached.

(1 Thessalonians 2:13 NLT) . . . we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn't think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God--which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe.

Can God tell you right from wrong?

if not then ...

You just might be your own god.

Step #2 -- Discount the consequences of sin.

We buy the lie...

Lie #2 -- It wont hurt anything.

(Proverbs 14:12 NIV) There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.

Step #3 -- Devil accuses God of holding out on us.

Lie #3 -- God's way is boring. Sin is fun.

(Psalm 16:11 NLT) You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.

Step #4 -- Devil sells sin as beneficial.

we buy the lie ...

Lie #4 -- Life is better when you lead it.

(1 Corinthians 6:19 NLT) Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.


You honor God with right choices.

Step #5 -- Devil uses sin to bury you in shame.

Lie #5 -- There is no hope and no way out.

(Psalm 34:5 NLT) Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.

* Defensiveness

* Remorse

* Repentance

(2 Corinthians 7:10 NLT) For the kind of sorrow God (repentance) wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There's no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.
