Today's Sermon

The Mature Decision to Seek and Do God's Will
James 4:13-17
Pastor Shawn Bowen

Introduction: James 4:13-17

1. Three ways we can respond to God’s will:

a. Ignorance: Not seeking the God’s will at all (e.g., King Asa, 2 Chronicles 15:12-13).

b. Disobedience: Knowing God’s will but not obeying it (e.g. Jonah, Jonah 1:1-3).

c. Obedience: Acknowledging God’s will and submitting to it (e.g., Paul, Acts 16:6-10).

2. God’s general will for His people:

a. None should perish and all should be saved. John 3:16; 1 Timothy 2:3-4

b. Live our lives in accordance with His Word. Matthew 4:4

c. Pursue personal holiness and moral purity. 1 Peter 1:15-16

d. Be grateful. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

e. Be humble and selfless. Philippians 2:3-4

f. Be productive and fruitful with our lives. Colossians 3:23

g. Find rest in Him. Matthew 11:28-29

h. Love Him and love others. Matthew 22:37-39

3. God’s specific will for each one of us:

That we do the good works that God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

4. The benefits of following God’s will are many.

a. We will experience true freedom.

b. We will experience deeper fellowship with God. Mark 3:35

c. We will experience answered prayer more frequently. 1 John 5:14-15

Application Thoughts: Seek God’s will by…

1. Studying His word.

2. Praying consistently and faithfully.

3. Listening for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

4. Learning incrementally what we ought to do and doing it.

5. Trusting Him. Proverbs 3:5-6

July Nicaragua Trip Information Meeting - February 22nd

After the service on February 22, we’ll be hosting an informational meeting about the July multigenerational trip to Nicaragua. If you’re interested in going, please plan to attend. We hope to see you there!

Open Mic Night - March 6

Our next Open Mic night will be on Friday, March 6. Doors will open at 6:00pm and we'll get started around 6:30pm. Bring your voice, your instrument, your stories, your poems, or simply your love for live creativity. See you there!

MINISTRY CONNECTION POINTS

Women's Ministry
Women's Ministry is encouraging the women of the church to read the Bible, just a chapter a day, and join the TableTop gathering for discussion the last Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm.

The women's Saturday morning Bible study meets every other week at 9:00am at the church. For more information about the group, contact Andrea Flack or Jane Banzhaf.

Men's Ministry
We have a men’s gathering on the third Thursday of every month. These gatherings provide great opportunities to grow in our relationships as men encourage each other in our walks with the Lord. Also, we have a men's prayer morning at 6:00am on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. For more information about Men's Ministry, contact Elliot Makuh.

Young Adults
The Young Adults group has several gatherings throughout the month. For more information about the group, contact Daniel Ayers.

Youth Group
Youth Group meets Sunday mornings during the service on all but the first Sunday of the month. The group also meets Sunday afternoons at 4:00pm. For more information about the group, contact Val Semich.

Children's Ministry
We are always on the lookout for volunteers to help with our Children's Ministry. If you are interested in helping out please contact Angela or Tom Wheaton.

Kids Camp
Early Kids Camp/VBS registration for summer 2026 will be available to Hillside, Faith Lutheran, and Calvary! We anticipate an announcement email in March. Dates for camp are Monday, July 13th–Thursday, July 16th 8:45am–12:00pm (Note the days and time change in our schedule!).

Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministers offer one-to-one, Christ-centered, emotional and spiritual care for people in the congregation going through difficult times such as job loss, financial struggles, medical issues, or death of a loved one. Please contact Kristi Bowen if you are interested in meeting with a Stephen Minister.

Care Team Ministry
The Care Team Ministry provides transportation for those in need in our Hillside Family.

Prayer Ministry
The Prayer Team hosts a monthly prayer night on the third Monday of the month at 7:00pm. Everyone is welcome! You can also receive prayer in person from 9:30-10:00am Sunday mornings in the cry room adjacent to the church lobby.

Meals Ministry
The Meals Ministry is a practical way to meet the needs of others in the congregation who are welcoming a new baby or experiencing challenging circumstances.

Golden MomCo (formerly MOPS)
MomCo meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at First Baptist Church in Golden. For more information about the group email goldenmomco@gmailcom.
