Big News

Family and friends of Manteno Nazarene,

In case you missed the big news of last weekend, it is my privilege to inform you that after several months of searching, many conversations and prayerful discernment, the church board has elected to hire Elliott Storey as our Student Ministries Pastor.

Elliott has served as an intern in Student Ministries since August 2024 and has repeatedly shown that he loves our students as much as they love him. We have observed his devotion to Christ, a dedication to relationally help students become fully devoted followers of Christ, and his abilities to work with others to advance the mission of Christ.

Thank you for your prayers though this search process. Thank you for praying for Pastor Elliott as he begins this new role and continues his education at Olivet Nazarene University. May God continue to lead us as we learn to better Love God, Journey Together, Serve Others and Share Jesus!

I’m excited for our future!

Pastor Ken Bushey

Crisis Care Kit Supplies Needed
We are looking for some specific supplies for our Crisis Care Kits. CCKs are a tangible way we can show Christ’s love in times of crisis. When natural disasters or emergencies strike, the Nazarene Church distributes these kits to meet immediate needs and offer hope to those who are hurting all around the world. For more information about Crisis Care Kits and items we collect all year round, go to: https://ncm.org/kitsandpaks We are currently in need of shampoo (12-18oz), boxes of Band-Aids (Containing at least 30 Band-Aids), and hand towels (approximately 15”x18”.) We are collecting them in the coat room in the bin that we also collect sheets in. Our goal is to get enough supplies together to pack several boxes of crisis care kits.

Joseph: Rebuilding Trust
Genesis 42
February 22, 20206

Genesis 42
6... So when Joseph’s brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground. 7 As soon as Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger and spoke harshly to them. “Where do you come from?” he asked.

Genesis 42
9 Then he remembered his dreams about them and said to them, “You are spies! You have come to see where our land is unprotected.”

When we have been wounded, trust is what is wounded.

Forgiveness can happen in a moment, but trust takes time.

Genesis 42
19 If you are honest men, let one of your brothers stay here in prison, while the rest of you go and take grain back for your starving households. 20 But you must bring your youngest brother to me, so that your words may be verified and that you may not die.” This they proceeded to do.
21 They said to one another, “Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; that’s why this distress has come on us.”
22 Reuben replied, “Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! Now we must give an accounting for his blood.” 23 They did not realize that Joseph could understand them, since he was using an interpreter.
24 He turned away from them and began to weep...

Genesis 44
9 “If any of your servants is found to have it, he will die; and the rest of us will become my lord’s slaves.”
10 “Very well, then,” he said, “let it be as you say. Whoever is found to have it will become my slave;the rest of you will be free from blame.”

Genesis 44
16... “What can we say? How can we prove our innocence? God has uncovered your servants’ guilt. We are now my lord’s slaves...”

Genesis 44
17... “Only the man who was found to have the cup will become my slave. The rest of you, go back to your father in peace.”

Genesis 44
33 “Now then, please let your servant remain here as my lord’s slave in place of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers.”

Genesis 45
3 Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still living?” But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence.

Trust takes time. Handle it carefully.

Remember: there is only One worthy of complete trust.
