Where do you turn when the unexpected occurs?
Samson's parents were given a task for their upcoming child: to uphold the Nazarite vow
What is something you have seen your parents do to invest in you and prepare you for your future?
What is the Nazarite vow?
After reading the Nazarite vow, what do you think the most difficult aspect of it would be to uphold? Why?
It is self explanatory, but the answer to that initial question is that we NEED to turn to God
How does turning to God in every aspect of our lives set us up for success?
This was just the beginning of Samson's rampage directed at the Philistines
Not only did he kill 30 people at this point, but he also destroyed the majority of their current and future food supplies for their nation. But it did not stop there.
This shows us that when we turn away from God, our lives WILL turn upside down
This meant the only thing left for the Philistine nation to do was bring in every alpha male's weakness: women
They were willing to spend the equivalent of millions of dollars on stopping Samson(which makes sense when you think about the level of damage committed)
And finally, Samson gives up his secrets.... BUT HE GETS IT WRONG
He said his strength came from what he was doing by not cutting his hair, and not what God was doing through his obedience. This misstep led him to his bitter end, literally...
Even though Samson turned away from God, God remained with him the whole time just waiting patiently for him to realize his wrongdoing.
When he finally came to terms with it, we see that it is NEVER too late to turn back to God
The bottom line is this across the whole U-turn series and across the whole bible really: God will always be faithful, even when his people turn their backs on him
