hey
Jesus is preaching and a crowd is following Him.
He says to Levi, follow me and be my disciple. But Levi is a tax collector. Levi is a traitor and a thief.
Levi got up and left his job, left his burden, and followed Jesus. In spite of who he was and what he had done, this traitor and thief heard Jesus call to him and he got up and followed.
Just as Jesus healed, cleansed, and restored the leper to his community, in a similar way, Jesus was healing, cleansing, and restoring Levi. Jesus did that for them and He can do that for us.
Levi invited and Jesus came. Jesus came into Levi’s life with no hesitation, with no aura of disappointment. Jesus came and sat and ate with Levi.

But inevitably, when we invite Jesus into our lives, there will be resistance, there will be criticism.
Again out of their “certainties” the Pharisees and teachers of religious law condemn and criticize…but to their point, the bible does speak of separating the unrighteous from the righteous…separating what is unholy from what is holy.
The Pharisees and teachers of religious law have been taught and trained their whole lives to live like this, to interpret scripture like this…to “delight" in the law of the Lord. But the way they delight in the law is to focus on the letter of the law instead of the intent of the law and in focusing on the letter of the law, they miss the intention of the law, the heart of the law. They miss the intention of God, the heart of God…and the intention of God is to be close to us. The intention of God is to be with us.
If you "think" you know, then you won't be open to correction
Jesus is calling those who know they are sinners into the Kingdom of God.

Levi knew he was a sinner. Levi knew he did wrong. But when Jesus said follow me and be my disciple, He was saying to Levi, follow me, learn from me, and I’ll show you how.
