• God Moments: how have you seen God working, either in your life or in the life of another, over the past week? Did God answer any prayer requests that you had shared with the group previously?

• Meditation Verse: last week, we discussed Ephesians 5:1. How has this verse affected your life this week?

Focus Verse. Have each person in the group kneel on the floor to symbolize humility, then read Ephesians 5:21 together out loud. "Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ."

Sean taught that submission looks like four things. Let's discuss.

First, Submission is Personal. Have someone read James 4:7 and 4:10.

1. Share a time when you chose to submit to someone, whether it was a personal relationship or a work relationship, and how it positively affected you or the other person.

2. Submission is a choice. In what relationship do you find it most difficult to choose to submit to someone else?

Second, Submission is Sacrificial. Have someone read Philippians 2:3-8.

** 3. What have you given up for someone else? **

4. What do you know you need to give up in order to submit in a current relationship, but you've been reluctant to do so?

Third, Submission is Denial. Have someone read Romans 12:17-21.

5. What excuses do we use when we refuse to submit to someone who has wronged us?

6. How do you reconcile those excuses with the fact that Christ chose to die for us even though we wronged Him?

Lastly, Submission is Biblical. Have someone read Hebrews 12:9-10.

7. None of us had perfect parents, but we submitted to them because we thought they wanted the best for us. Why do we have difficulty submitting to God, who we know is perfect, loves us more than our parents loved us, and only wants the best for us?

** 8. In what way is God calling you to submit to Him right now? **

Prayer 4U - The [New Year Name Here] statement this week was "For this New Year, I will submit to others." On a piece of paper, write your name and who you need to submit to - don't use a specific name, but rather the type of relationship it is (spouse, family member, leader, employer, etc.). Put the paper in a hat, then have everyone pick a name and pray that that person chooses submission!

Guided Prayer - (Leader, include the following in your prayer time). Father, the greatest example of submission and humility was set by your son. Make us more like Jesus so we are willing to choose submission in all of our relationships. In Jesus' name, AMEN
