Title: "[surrender here]" (02-08-26)

The Point: [insert name here] and Follow God's Authority

Object Lesson: Old vs New (socks, milk, diapers)
Focus Verse - read Ephesians 5:1. "Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children." Have each person read this verse while imitating someone famous. Have the group guess who you're trying to imitate!
** Icebreaker - Who did you imitate when you were a little kid? In other words, who or what did you pretend to be? **
This week's passage (Ephesians 4:17 - 5:20) discussed four ways we should walk as Christ-followers.
We Should Walk Differently Than the World. Have someone read Ephesians 4:17 and 4:22-24.
1. Since Jesus made us clean, we need to put off our old sinful nature. Otherwise, it's like putting dirty underwear on after we have already showered. What "dirty underwear", or what part of your old sinful nature, are you still wearing even though Christ has made you clean?

** 2. How are you walking differently than the world around you? Has anyone ever noticed and commented about your differences? If it's not noticeable, how do you plan to change the way you're walking? **
We Should Walk in Love. Have someone read Ephesians 5:1-2.
3. Immediately after telling us to imitate God, Paul commands us to love like Christ. How does loving like Christ help us to abstain from the sins listed in verses 3-7 - sexual sins, greed, and obscene talking?

4. Craig Groeschel says, "God loves you just the way you are, but He loves you too much to leave you the way you are." This is the same way we are to love other people. Do you have people in your life who love you enough to call you out on your sin? Do you love others enough to do the same?
We Should Walk in the Light. Have someone read Ephesians 5:8-11.
5. Paul commands us to live as people of light, which means only doing and saying what is good and right and true. On a scale of 0-10, with 10 being the brightest and 0 being the darkest, how bright is your light?

6. What changes do you need to make to live as a 10?
We Should Walk in Wisdom. Read Ephesians 5:15 and 5:17.
** 7. Scripture is clear about what God doesn't want us to do in our day-to-day lives. For example, all the "don'ts" listed in chapter 4. Staying away from those things is one way we can walk in wisdom. On a scale of 0-10, with 10 being wise and 0 being foolish, how would you rate yourself? **

8. What changes do you need to make to live as a 10?
Prayer 4U - The [New Year Name Here] statement this week was "For this New Year, I will surrender my sin." Have everyone put their name in a hat, then pick a name and pray that that person throws away their dirty underwear this week!
Guided Prayer - (Leader, include the following in your prayer time). God help us to walk differently in response to what Christ has done for us. Help us to love others in the same way that you love us. May we be a light in this dark world that draws people to you. And help us to be wise in our daily choices so that we can glorify you in all we say and do. In Jesus' name, AMEN
