Christians are not to be tumbleweeds that have no roots and are blown about by ‘every wind of doctrine’… Nor are they to be transplants that are repeatedly moved from soil to soil.” ~Warren Wiersbe
ROOTED: ῥιζόω rhizoō cause to take root; pass.: be rooted or firmly established
To live a christian life is to live rooted.
(1) Apostles’ Teaching (v. 42a). The first Christians were deeply devoted to Christ’s message. For that reason, they paid close attention to those who had been directly commissioned by Jesus to deliver his original message and establish the church. Some of these teachings later became a part of our NT. They were a Word-centered church.
(2) Fellowship (Gk koinonia; v. 42b). Not only were Christ’s followers in the early church devoted to their primary relationship with God, but they also were committed to building open, honest and spiritually encouraging relationships with God’s people. They spent much time together and depended on one another. They were a relationship-building church.
(3) Breaking of Bread (vv. 42c, 46). This common expression in Acts and the early church seems to have several applications. (1) It could refer simply to sharing meals in one another’s homes. (2) It could also refer to the agape love meal (which was probably like a present-day church fellowship meal) or to the Lord’s Supper (i.e., communion) itself. (3) They enjoyed each other’s company and were a caring and sharing community. They were people of gratitude and hospitality
(4) Prayer (v. 42d; cf. 1:14; 4:23–31). . (2) They recognized prayer as the source of intimacy with God, which gave them sensitivity to his direction and allowed his power to work through them.
