Jesus is King, and His kingdom creates a different kind of people.
When Jesus says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit” (Matthew 5:3), he’s not talking about low self-esteem or lack of confidence. “Poor in spirit” means radical dependence on God, humility, and an openness that knows “I don’t sustain myself, God does.
“The Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing” (John 5:19)
He’s poor in spirit because he freely lives in total trust, humility, and obedience toward the Father.

So What Do the Poor in Spirit Look Like?
God-dependent – prayerful, not self-reliant. Prayer as a reflex not a last resort.
Grounded – honest about who they are before God
Gentle – humble and meek in posture.
Gracious – deeply aware of God’s mercy. Hard to offend and quick to forgive others.
Grateful – not entitled, but thankful in all circumstances
Generous – open-handed with what God has given.
