Big Idea: Giving reveals the heart of the giver.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 – NLT Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Deuteronomy 14:22 – NLTYou must set aside a tithe of your crops—one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year.
Mark 12:41-44 – NLT Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. 42 Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. 43 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. 44 For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”
INSIGHTS (What might this Scripture mean?)
1. This is a true story.
Mark 12:41 – NLTJesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts.
--The Temple
--The Collection Box
--“Perceived Spiritual Status”
2. Giving reveals the heart of the giver.
Mark 12:42 – NLT Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.
Mark 12:43-44 – NLT Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”
ACTION (How could we live this out?)
1. Decide in your heart what you want to give.
2 Corinthians 9:7 – NLT You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
2. Remember that money isn’t the only thing you have to offer.
--For some, it might be your time.
--And for some, it might be your talent.
3. Give regularly.
1 Corinthians 16:2a – NLT On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned.
4. Don’t draw attention to your gift.
Matthew 6:4 – NLT Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
