1. The calling of God
a. A world of His making
1. The calling of God
a. A world of His making
b. Chosen for a purpose
2. Temptation of Tarshish
a. A world of our making
b. Opposite in way of life
Key Theme:
Humans are world-makers, created in God’s image to cultivate creation under His reign. Sin distorts that calling, tempting us, like Jonah, to reject God’s world in favor of constructing our own, one of comfort, control, and self-definition of “Tarshish.”

Key Application:
We are to strive for faithfulness, not merely believing in God or maintaining religious identity; but participating in the kind of world God is remaking, even when that world conflicts with our preferences, comforts, or sense of justice.

Repentance, therefore, is not just turning from obvious sin but turning from self-directed world-making back to God-directed participation in His purposes.

Key Verses:
2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

Key Questions:
1. Are there things the Lord calls you to, ways of living, morally, ethically, circumstantially or things He does that “displease” you?

2. Where am I currently building a “world of my own making” rather than submitting to the one God is making?

3. Who are the “Ninevites” in my life, people I do not want God to show mercy to?

Church family, we praise God for how faithfully in so many respects you give. Our church family is undeniably generous, but we still have great needs for supplication. We ask that you give joyfully, faithfully and sacrificially in response to how our great God and Savior has given to us.
