Marathon runners call mile 20 "The Wall" because it's the common point where the body's stored carbohydrates run critically low, causing sudden, severe fatigue, heavy legs, and a feeling of hitting an insurmountable physical and mental barrier, as if running into a brick wall, forcing many to slow down or stop.
Three main causes:
- Improper Training
- Insufficient Fueling
- Pride (Too Fast)

The Dip is the challenging stretch in any worthwhile pursuit where progress stalls, obstacles pile up and results feel far away. It’s the period after the initial excitement has worn off but before meaningful success arrives.”

WHAT IS BREAKTHROUGH?
Breakthrough is a sudden moment—a light bulb moment— that breaks through resistance, opposition, obstacles, tiredness, and/or cloudiness that provides a new-found joy and forward momentum for you to live out your God-given purpose.

IF YOU DON'T EXPERIENCE A BREAKTHROUGH, YOU MAY FIND YOURSELF:
- Spinning out of control
- Burning out from exhaustion
- Stalling out altogether
- Bailing out
- Dropping out
- Dying out

A broken-down wall isn’t a fully functioning city!
YOU MUST HAVE .... BREAKDOWN!
If you never experience a BREAKDOWN, it is unlikely you’ll ever experience a BREAKTHROUGH.
If you never experience a BREAKDOWN, it is unlikely you’ll ever experience a BREAKTHROUGH.
#1: My Heart is Broken Over…
They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.” When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. (Nehemiah 1:3-4)

TWO WAYS HE BREAKS DOWN
- Physically—“sat down”
- Emotionally—“wept”

SORRY ISN’T the same as BROKEN
BROKENNESS isn’t BEATING Yourself up!
BROKENNESS IS HUMBLING yourself.
BROKENNESS IS HUMBLING yourself.

Breakdown involves you jumping FROM the ledge of sympathy INTO the waters of empathy.
#2: My Faith Goes to Work in the Basement of Brokenness
For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.
(Nehemiah 1:4b)

MOURNING
Lamenting and Grieving over what is but shouldn’t be . . .

FASTING
I/we cannot fix what is, but God, YOU CAN!

PRAYER
Here’s what I know You’ve said, and I believe it!

#3: My Resolve is Fixed Until God Moves
Nehemiah 1:1, 11; 2:1
In the month of Kislev . . . let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel . . . Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.

Nehemiah 1:1, 11; 2:1
I was cupbearer to the king. In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king.

Signs you haven’t entered into the Breakdown Mode:
- Your rhythms haven’t changed
- You’re hoping for a silver bullet
- It hasn’t affected you holistically
- You’re going through motions instead of putting faith in action
- You’re back to business as usual
- You haven’t processed what got you HERE
- You haven’t owned your JUNK
- You’re living with POINTED FINGERS rather than humble faith

GOD CANNOT FULLY REBUILD SOMETHING THAT ISN'T PERCEIVED AS BROKEN.
BUT . . . Breakthrough requires much more than a BREAKDOWN,
it also requires a . . .
it also requires a . . .
