1 Corinthians 13
Christians in Corinth were struggling to practice love for one another because they were more committed to seeking their own agenda: to be honored, well liked, recognized, in control, unaccountable, to be superior.
How lack of love was working out in Corinth church…
-selfishly dividing over favorite teachers: ch 1-3
-selfishly avoiding confronting public immorality: ch 5
-selfishly taking others to court: ch 6
-selfishly insisting on rights for meat offered to idols: ch 8-10
-selfishly shunning believers at communion: ch11
-selfishly misusing spiritual gifts: ch 12-13
-selfishly interrupting worship: ch 14

God’s love guides our use of spiritual gifts to honor Him while helping others.
What are spiritual gifts?
Spirit given abilities to believers to help build up the body of Christ
-given providentially and variously for a church
-given for helping others in relation to God
-temporary and incomplete until Christ returns
-misused without love

What’s the problem: Another divisive problem = a competitive spirit in use of gifts.
What is love here in context?
the practice of unselfish, sacrificial care for others
