Prepare Him Room

Prepare Him Room

The Bible does not tell us a lot about Jesus’ childhood, because the gospels focus more on Jesus’ ministry rather than on a biography of his whole life. We see him at birth, we see him at eight days old and then forty days old, we see him at the age of twelve, and then we do not see him again until he begins his public ministry at the age of thirty.

MESSAGE TEXT
Luke 2:52
*
INTRODUCTION
Luke 2:52 provides a summary, a brief yet important glimpse into Jesus’ development as He grew from childhood into adulthood. It covers his life from age 12 to 30 – eighteen years. Luke interviewed Mary, Jesus’ mother – because he wrote things in the birth narratives that only she would have known. He gives this summary of Jesus’ life early in his Gospel.
*
Jesus was being prepared for something great. You are too. Jesus went on to become the Savior of the world, but much of the time prior to his 3-year ministry was lived anonymously. There’s no record. He just lived a normal life, but he grew in four distinct ways. He was purposeful and intentional. Luke says that Jesus grew or progressed in four areas: mentally, physically, spiritually and socially.
*
APPLICATION
Take a look back at the past year. How have you grown in these four areas? Did you learn something new about God or His Word? Any new social skills developed? Is your body stronger? Is your mind growing with new ideas? What will be the summary of the next 18 years of your life? I don’t expect anyone to be Jesus, but I think its reasonable for all of us to follow His example.
*
In the next 18 years, some of you will get married, some will have children, some will go to work; some will retire. But one thing is for sure, for all of us the next 18-20 years will bring many changes. You have to ask yourself, what will I do with those years? What will our priorities be for those years? How many more Christmas’s will come and go and how will our lives be summarized? And really, someday all of our lives will be summarized in a single sentence. They call this our “life sentence.” It’s not a prison term; it’s a summarization of what your life was about.
*
PROPOSITION
Your life and growth will likely be summarized less by what you achieved or received and more by who you became. Prepare Him room.
*
MESSAGE POINTS
How life can be summarized for you... You grew your mind, took care of your body, walked with Jesus, and loved others.
*
Jesus grew in wisdom
Intellectual Ability: Limit overload (news, social media, constant noise). Make time to think, read, and reflect. A lifelong posture of personal growth is committed to learning, growing, and expanding. It’s the pre-requisite for a lifetime of maximum contribution.
*
Jesus grew in… stature
Physical Maturity: Sleep enough, move daily, eat reasonably well. Your body is a stewardship.
*
Jesus grew… in favor with God
Spiritual Intimacy: Slow down enough to reconnect with meaning and purpose. Prayer, Scripture, gratitude, or quiet reflection restore perspective.
*
Jesus grew… in favor with… man.
Social Integrity: Make space for relationships. No balanced life is lived alone. Invest in family and friendships. Be present. Shared joy and shared burdens keep life grounded.
*
CONCLUSION
You grew your mind, took care of your body, walked with Jesus, and loved others. What a great life summary! May it be said that: You grew steadily—often quietly without the spotlight. You learned when to persevere and when to surrender and who to surrender to at the right time. You became more honest with yourself, more patient with others, and more rooted in what truly matters. You didn’t rush maturity; you let it form through ordinary faithfulness, unseen choices, and long obedience. You learned to carry responsibility without losing tenderness, conviction without losing humility, and strength without losing compassion. From the outside, some seasons may look simple or even hidden. From the inside, they were formative. May it be said that you learned that growth isn’t always dramatic—it’s often slow, layered, and deeply meaningful.
