Weekly Sermon Overview:
The decorations are starting to look a little tired, the leftovers are all gone, our music apps no longer play carols, and the "Christmas high" is beginning to fade into the reality of the upcoming New Year. We now enter a strange week: Keep the gifts or take them back? Host, attend, or stay home during New Year’s Eve? Watch the ball drop or go to bed? Make another resolution to strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ or shy away since our faith isn't "exciting" enough if it isn't filled with constant mountaintop moments.
This Sunday, we step away from the bright lights of the manger to meet a woman who lived in the quiet shadows of the Temple: Anna the Prophetess.
Anna didn’t have a vital ministry or a platform to proclaim her message from. Instead, she had something much more powerful: persistence. For decades, she stayed in the presence of God through the simple, rhythmic habits of prayer and fasting. She shows us that faithfulness isn't about one-time grand gestures; it’s about the "unspectacular" daily practice of showing up.
Anna stayed at her post for decades, and because she was persistent, she was there to see the Promised Messiah when Mary and Joseph carried Jesus with them as they walked through the door of the Temple in Jerusalem.
Join us this Sunday as we learn how to cultivate a faith that lasts long after the Christmas tree is taken down.
