Sermon Notes and References below
"It is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty Founder was a child himself."
~Charles Dickens
In the same way, Jesus calls those who are considered the least of these and unworthy to be part of God's kingdom.
Who belongs in God's Kingdom?
"Jewish households were patriarchal...Adult men were the key members in society, women were secondary, and children were to be seen, not heard."
"But Jesus upends expectations and says that the children must be allowed to come to him. We see again Jesus embracing those on the lower end of the social ladder."
~Thomas Schreiner
What does it mean to receive the kingdom of God?
* Put faith in Jesus
* Depend on Jesus
"The experience of children, in thei absolute dependence, must be the experience of us all. The only members of the kingdom will be those who have received it as a child, those who recognize their spiritual poverty."
~Thomas Schreiner
"You can't come to Jesus with your arms full of everything you think makes you good...His welcome is a welcome of needs, of smallness, of those who don't know how to feed themselves or tie their shoes or wipe their noses. He wants you to come like a kid, like a little kid who might need carrying."
~Jonathan Parnell
