Think about the ‘naughty or nice’ lists we hear about at Christmas. If you had to put yourself on a list this year, where would you put yourself—and why?
How does knowing that none of us can be “good enough” change the way you think about God’s gift of grace?
Jesus’ genealogy included people with messy, sinful, or even scandalous pasts. How does God using imperfect people give you hope about your own life and the lives of those around you?
In what ways do you feel pressure to be “nice” or earn approval, either from God or others? How does the message of grace remove that pressure?
If receiving God’s grace humbles us, what might it look like to let that humility motivate your actions toward others this holiday season?
This Christmas, what are some ways you can intentionally receive God’s gift of grace in a fresh way? How could that change your relationships, your outlook, or the way you celebrate the holidays?
Closing Prayer:
God, thank You for sending Jesus to dismantle the system of earning Your favor and for offering us the gift of grace. Thank You that it’s not about how good or bad we are, but about what You have done for us. Help us to receive Your gift with humility and gratitude, and to let that grace shape the way we live and love others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
