This Sunday marks the beginning of the Advent season, a time when the Church prepares hearts to welcome the presence of Christ in our midst. Advent has always been a season shaped by waiting, longing, and hope. This period of reflection reminds us that the Holy Spirit continues to enter the world in surprising ways.
Our scripture for the day comes from Luke 1:26–38, where the angel Gabriel appears to Mary with news that will change not only her life, but the course of history. This passage connects deeply to the promises found throughout the Hebrew Scriptures: the coming of a Messiah one who would bring justice, peace, and restoration. With trust and courage, Mary becomes part of that story, offering a faithful “yes” to a hope she could not yet see. The message this Sunday will explore how this ancient story speaks to faith today. Many people move through Advent carrying more stress than anticipation. The wonder that once came so easily in childhood can become overshadowed by the pressures of adulthood.
