The Sin of Partiality, Part 3
The Remedy for Partiality is Love
James 2:8-13
Pastor Shawn Bowen
Introduction:
- What is partiality?
- Partiality occurs when we treat people based on the world’s standards, not God’s.
- God is impartial. Job 34:17-19; Acts 10:34-35; Romans 2:9-11

1. Partiality is a serious sin (vv. 8-11).
a. The royal law: Love your neighbor as yourself. Leviticus 19:18; Mathew 22:36-40
b. Why was it called the “royal law?”
- It was a command given by the King.
- It reflects the character of God Himself. 1 John 4:7-8
- It governs the other laws. Romans 13:8-10
c. Partiality goes against the royal law to love your neighbor as yourself.

Application Thoughts:
1. We all have basic needs, as do others.
2. We all have deeper needs, as do others.
3. Love others as you love yourself.
- Treat others as individuals with worth and significance.
- Care for and love others.
- Make others feel seen, heard, and known.
- Help others feel accepted.
- Make sure that others feel welcome in this community.
- Introduce others to Jesus.
4. Love one another as Jesus loves you. John 13:34-35

Salvation Army Bell Ringing - November 28 thru December 24
One of the lovely traditions our church maintains at Christmas time is bell ringing on behalf of the Salvation Army. The bell ringing campaign provides a wonderful way to “ring in” the holiday season and support our local community. All of the donations received during the campaign stay in Golden to benefit those in need of assistance for rent or utilities. So far this year, we have helped over 112 households. This year’s campaign starts the Friday after Thanksgiving and runs through Christmas Eve. Ringing will take place at the Golden King Soopers. Two-hour shifts are available every day, so be sure to book your preferred times early! Ring the bell with family members, friends, your (friendly) dog, or youth group. You can even play Christmas music and wear your Santa hat! If you have any questions, see Jennifer Wilson at church or e-mail her at jjwilson1to6@msn.com.
