Sermon on the Mount: Blessed are the Peacemakers

Sermon on the Mount: Blessed are the Peacemakers

In Matthew 5:9, Jesus declares that “blessed are the peacemakers.” This does not refer merely to keeping the peace or avoiding conflict. Peacemaking is the active work of bringing reconciliation where relationships have been broken. Biblically, a peacemaker mirrors the mission of Jesus Himself—who came to restore peace between God and humanity. Therefore, to be a peacemaker is to join Jesus in His work—pursuing reconciliation, fostering unity, and taking deliberate steps at being a peace with all men. Such people reflect the character of God, which is why Jesus says they “will be called sons of God.”
