Title: "The Conflict" (11-16-25)

The Point: The Conflict in The Story Continues with a Kingdom
Focus Verse - read 2 Samuel 7:12, 16 together. Now, choose a narrator to read the verse and 2 people to perform the verse in an interpretive dance.
** Icebreaker - God told Solomon that He would give him anything he wanted, and Solomon asked for wisdom. What would you ask for? **
The next three chapters in our story are Invasion, Decision and Coronation. Let's discuss some themes from each.
INVASION
1. God instructed the Israelites to kill or drive out the various inhabitants of the Promised Land so that they wouldn't be a stumbling block to them. Who or what do you need to drive out of your life that might be a stumbling block to you?

2. Israel's failure to obey God led to many years of conflict and difficulty. What do you risk by continuing to allow your stumbling block to remain in your life?

3. What are the benefits of driving out your stumbling block?

Bible Project - Judges

Throughout this series, we will be using short videos from the Bible Project to complement the point each week. Together, watch the video titled "Judges."

DECISION
2. The benefit of the Israelites' obedience to God was a time of "rest." Why would they choose to rebel even though they knew of the consequences of previous rebellions?
CORONATION
3. Even though God was supposed to be the only one they followed, the Israelites wanted a king to lead them so they could be just like all of the other nations. Read 1 Samuel 8:19-20.
3A. When have you ever looked at someone else's life and wanted to be "just like them?"

3B. What positive things can come from trying to be like someone else?

3C. On the flip side, what are some of the negative things that can come from trying to be like someone else?
Prayer 4U - Look across the room. Pray for that person this week that God would give them wisdom.
4. We learned that Rehoboam didn't listen to wise counsel after he became king and it had devastating consequences. Read 1 Kings 12:8-11.
4A. Do you have people in your life that can offer you wise counsel? If not, why not?
Guided Prayer - (Leader, include the following in your prayer time) God, thank you that your Word really is alive and powerful! Help us to recognize and remove the stumbling blocks that are preventing us from fully experiencing you. Thank you for the people in our lives who set good examples for us to follow as we live to honor you. And may we seek out and choose to follow wisdom in every situation. Amen.
