Qualified Servants for the Church - Deaconship Week 2
Three forms of a Greek word diakonos, diakonia, diakoneo, being the three particular forms, one referring to servant, another to service, and another the verb to serve.
There is no diminishing of spiritual quality in the role of deacon when compared with the role of pastor-elder.
1. We are all called to serve/minister (John 12:26)
2. There are some in the body uniquely gifted to service (Romans 12:3-8)
3. There are those who are called to the office of servant in the church
Deacons could be called Servants with a capital S.
It is important to recognize that deacons are deacons not because they're to do all the work, but because they're to model the proper kind of service for everyone else.
Deacons, Servants with the capital S, do whatever the pastors direct them to do.
The task of the pastor-elder is simple, win teach, train, send, repeat.

What Deacons Practically Provide the Church
1. Spotting and meeting tangible needs
2. Protecting and promoting church unity
3. Serving and supporting the ministry of the elders

The scriptural structure suggests deacons are both pairs with and subordinate to the elders they support.
Deacons are never presented as chaperones of the Elders who impose a potential "check" on their every decision. In a healthy church, Godly Deacons execute the vision and oversight of Godly Elders, not the other way around.
Faithful Deacons receive a great promise (1 Timothy 3:13)
Every church needs not only the pastoral leadership but the servant leadership.
The qualifications that come with the office of deacon should be all of our guidelines for living.
