God had called Abraham from the land of his fathers. God had led Abraham into Canaan, the land of promise. God had made to Abraham a three-fold promise of “Prosperity”, “Property” and “Posterity.”
Despite 25 years of waiting for the promise of a son, Abraham continued to believe God, and God credited his faith as righteousness.
· Isaac, the son of promise was born when Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah, his wife, was 90.
FAITH IS A JOURNEY
· IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN FAITH, OUR LIFE CONSISTS IN A CONTINUAL WALK WITH GOD.
· TRUSTING HIM DAILY, EACH STEP OF LIFE’S JOURNEY
This testing of Abraham in Genesis 22 and God’s command to sacrifice his son seemed inconsistent with God’s very nature. Yet Abraham did not question the command of God
· Instead, he trusted the one who spoke and he responded in obedience.
ABRAHAM WOULD DEMONSTRATE AN UNCONDITIONAL TRUST IN GOD BY HIS OBEDIENCE based onA FIRM BELIEF THAT GOD COULD RAISE ISAAC UP FROM THE DEAD, IF NECESSARY
When Abraham left his servants behind while he and Isaac went to the place of sacrifice he said to them in Genesis 22:5:
Abraham said, “WE will come back to you.”
· The plain meaning of the text is that Abraham expected to come back with Isaac.
· He reckoned that since the fulfillment of the promises depended on Isaac’s survival, then God was bound by his word to restore Isaac’s life.
WHAT WOULD HAVE GIVEN ABRAHAM THE IMPRESSION THAT GOD COULD QUICKEN THE DEAD TO LIFE?

WHAT WOULD HAVE GIVEN ABRAHAM THE IMPRESSION THAT GOD COULD QUICKEN THE DEAD TO LIFE?
Isaac’s conception and subsequent life was a miracle birthed out of the life-giving power of God. Abraham knew that if God had done it before, He would do it again.
The mountain upon which Abraham offered up Isaac became known as Mount Moriah. The same place known by King David as the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. Where Solomon would later build the Temple of the Lord. Countless sacrifices were offered in this place. Yet the sacrifices of animals were not sufficient to atone for the sins of the people
In the fullness of time, God the Father gave up his only begotten son as an atoning sacrifice for the sins of the whole world demonstrating his love for his creation.

God has provided for each one of us on a hill called Mount Calvary
