The Last Hour & The Antichrist

TODAY’S MESSAGE:
“THE LAST LETTERS: JOHN, JUDE & JESUS”
“The Last Hour & The Antichrist”

READ:
1 John 2:18-29
Deceptions of the Last Hour
18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
Let Truth Abide in You
24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
The Children of God
28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. 29If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.

LAST HOUR:
The present age between Christ’s ascension and return, marked by deception.

Hebrews 1:2 - 'has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; '
Acts 2:17 - '‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.'

ANTICHRIST AND ANTICHRISTS
Do not be deceived
Antichrists then the Antichrist (lawless one)
If you cannot discern antichrists, you will probably be deceived by the Antichrist
The enemy, the devil is the father of lies, the prince of the power of the air, the one who leads the sons of disobedience - he hates you, wants to kill you, steal from you and destroy you and his greatest weapon against you is to make you believe lies about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and yourself.
The only way to NOT be deceived or stay deceived is to lay down pride, choose to humble yourself, allow the fear of the Lord to mark your life, and to let the Word of God speak the loudest in your life.
Life is spiritual and it is warfare, the battlefield is the mind
The enemy will entice through:
The lust of the flesh
The lust of the eyes
The pride of life
DO NOT BE DECEIVED!

Matthew 24:3-14
The Signs of the Times and the End of the Age
3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

II Thess 2:1-17
The Great Apostasy
1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Stand Fast
13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.

The Lord Jesus can return at any moment. What do you want to be busy with when He makes His appearance?

READ AGAIN:
1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

HOW TO NOT BE DECEIVED:
Always check if someone believes/communicates that Jesus is the Christ, the anointed One, the Messiah, the promised one from the Old Testament
That He was both fully God and fully man
That He is one with the Father, that He is the Son of the Father

JESUS IS THE ANOINTED ONE - WE ARE ANOINTED FOR TRUTH
John also says believers are anointed and the anointing is what establishes TRUTH
In other words, the anointing is our antidote to deception!
So, what is the anointing?

“ANOINTING”
In 1 John 2:20 and 27, the apostle John writes:
“But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.” (v.20)
“But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie…” (v.27)
🔍 1. The General Theological Consensus
Most theologians — across conservative, evangelical, and historic Christian traditions — agree that “the anointing” refers to the indwelling presence and ministry of the Holy Spirit given to every true believer.
This understanding is rooted in the idea that the Holy Spirit:
Teaches and reveals truth (cf. John 14:26; John 16:13)
Confirms believers in the truth of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:12–15)
Guards against deception, especially false teachers (which is the context of 1 John 2)

Thus, the “anointing” is not a mystical substance or special level of spirituality, but the ongoing internal guidance and illumination of the Holy Spirit.

📖 2. Word Study: “Anointing” (Greek: chrisma)
The Greek word χρῖσμα (chrisma) means anointing, unction, or ointment applied by anointing.
It comes from chriō (“to anoint”), which is also the root of Christos (“Christ,” meaning “the Anointed One”).
In the Old Testament, anointing was a sign of being set apart for divine purpose (kings, priests, prophets).
John uses this image metaphorically to say: believers are set apart and empowered by God’s Spirit through Christ.

🕊️ 3. Contextual Meaning in 1 John 2
John was confronting early Gnostic and proto-Gnostic false teachers who claimed secret “knowledge” (gnosis).
John reminds his readers that they already have all they need to discern truth because:
They have the Holy Spirit’s anointing, not secret knowledge.
This anointing enables them to recognize truth from error.
Therefore, they don’t need these false teachers to “enlighten” them.
So, “you do not need that anyone teach you” doesn’t reject teachers entirely — it means believers don’t need false teachers to reveal some hidden spiritual truth, because the Holy Spirit already confirms Christ’s truth within them.

🧩 5. Summary
“The anointing” in 1 John 2 refers to the indwelling Holy Spirit who teaches, guides, and protects believers from deception, confirming them in the truth of Christ.
It is not a secret knowledge, but the Spirit’s living presence within every believer, fulfilling Jesus’ promise that the Spirit would “teach you all things” (John 14:26).

ABIDE
Read again:
I John 2:24 “Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning.
28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. 29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.”

Similarly to John 15, here in 1 John 2, he keeps reiterating that the believers, his children must ABIDE:
In the gospel message
In the Son and the Father
Let the anointing, the Holy Spirit, abide in you - He is your teacher
And you abide in the anointing, the Holy Spirit
In Him, God the Triune God, Father, Son & Holy Spirit

DO NOT BE DECEIVED BY MODERN DAY SECTS:
MODERN DAY SECTS THAT DENY JESUS’ DEITY IN SOME WAY:
🔹 1. Jehovah’s Witnesses (Watchtower Bible and Tract Society)
Core Issue: Deny the full deity of Jesus Christ. They teach that He is a created being — the archangel Michael — not God incarnate.
Scriptural conflict: John 1:1; Colossians 1:15-19; Hebrews 1:6-8.
False view: Jesus is “a god,” lesser than Jehovah.
Result: Directly fits 1 John 2:22 – “Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ?”
🔹 2. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons)
Core Issue: Polytheistic view; Jesus is the literal spirit-brother of Lucifer and a “god” who progressed to divinity.
Scriptural conflict: Isaiah 43:10; John 10:30; Colossians 2:9.
False view: God the Father was once a man; Jesus is a separate deity who merely attained godhood.
Result: Diminishes the eternal deity and uniqueness of Christ.
🔹 3. Seventh-day Adventism (in some strands)
Core Issue: Historically mixed; modern mainstream Adventists affirm Christ’s divinity, but early Adventist founders (e.g., Ellen G. White, James White) leaned semi-Arian at times.
Concerns: Some sub-groups still deny eternal sonship or elevate Sabbath observance above faith in Christ’s finished work
Scriptural conflict: Galatians 4:9–11; Colossians 2:16-17.
Result: When law-keeping eclipses grace, the centrality of Christ’s redemptive work is diminished.
🔹 4. Christadelphians
Core Issue: Deny the Trinity and the pre-existence of Christ; they see Jesus as a mere man specially empowered by God.
Scriptural conflict: John 8:58; Philippians 2:5-11.
Result: Denies the eternal Word made flesh.
🔹 5. Unitarian Universalists
Core Issue: Reject the deity of Christ entirely; view Him as a moral teacher or enlightened prophet.
Scriptural conflict: John 20:28; 1 John 5:20.
Result: Purely human Christ — a humanistic religion under Christian language.
🔹 6. Oneness Pentecostals (“Jesus Only” or Modalists)
Core Issue: Deny the distinct persons of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; claim these are mere “modes.”
Scriptural conflict: Matthew 3:16-17; John 14:16.
Result: Undermines the relationship between the Father and the Son revealed in Scripture.
🔹 7. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist)
Core Issue: Deny that Jesus’ death was substitutionary; view His “Christ” as a divine idea, not the incarnate Son of God.
Scriptural conflict: 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 4:2-3.
Result: Removes the necessity of the Cross and salvation by faith.

Many of these groups:
Use Christian terminology (e.g., “Bible,” “Jesus,” “salvation”)
But redefine those terms through unbiblical frameworks (extra-biblical revelations, human founders, or philosophical reinterpretations).
This fulfills 1 John 2:22-23 and 2 Corinthians 11:4 — “another Jesus… another gospel.”

LET US CHOOSE TO REMAIN CONTINUALLY IN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST AND OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN BY THE LEADING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, THEN WE CANNOT BE DECEIVED
LET TRUTH CONVICT AND WASH CLEAN
PRAY DAILY FOR DISCERNMENT FROM HOLY SPIRIT
BE WATCHFUL, BE AWARE
