The Jesus Way
Week 5
“The Way of the Vine”
Week 5
“The Way of the Vine”
the gardener understands that PRUNING is NOT AN OPTION if you want to produce the best fruit.
1. THE PROCESS OF PRUNING
You can’t avoid the Pruning Process as a Disciple, because it’s The Jesus Way!
Pruning is the process of Jesus removing the unhealthy and unfruitful parts of our lives to promote spiritual growth, deeper connection with Him, and lasting fruit.
The word “Prune” in Greek is “Kathairo” which means, “to cleanse or purify, to prune unproductive growth to produce more fruit.”
The First C is Crossing
The Second C is Competing
The Third C is Crowding
2. THE PURPOSE OF PRUNING
The First Reason He prunes us is because He LOVES us
So, we can BECOME what He created us to BE and DO what He created us to DO.
The Second Reason He prunes us is TO PREVENT SIN FROM DOMINATING OUR LIVES.
The Third Reason He prunes us is to MATURE US so that we bear fruit.
Good is the enemy of Best.
Pruning is the most important part of the wine making process because the quality of the grapes is dependent on the pruning process happening now.
3. THE PRODUCT OF PRUNING
Jesus is saying “Just Follow Me.”
The word ABIDE used in John 15 means “to be continually connected to Christ in a relationship of trust, dependence, and obedience.”
Fruitfulness in our lives is the result of CONNECTING not DOING
You don’t have to do anything but Yield and Follow
DON’T DISCONNECT FROM THE VINE!
Jesus said YOU WILL produce fruit if you remain connected to ME! I want to refer back to a statement I made in a sermon a year ago…TRUST THE PROCESS!
A Life that Obeys.
A Life that is Satisfied
Jesus wanted the Disciples to understand The Way of the Vine so that their lives would be Satisfying, Joy filled, and Fruitful!
Have you surrendered to the pruning process, or have you been resisting the process?
