Minor Prophets: Habakkuk

The Minor Prophets may be short books, but they carry a major message: God is always calling His people back to Him. Through their words we see God’s faithfulness, mercy, and justice revealed in every season. This series will help us hear their voices today and find our way back to God.

WHO ARE THE PROPHETS

The prophets were men called by God to speak into the real issues of their day. They weren’t fortune-tellers predicting the future, but truth-tellers helping people find their way back to God.

THREE CONSISTENT TRUTHS

God is holy.

God takes sin seriously.

God pursues His people with relentless love and grace.

Malachi 3:7b

“Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty.”
Habakkuk

Habakkuk 1:1

This is the message that the prophet Habakkuk received in a vision.

The name Micah means “Embrace or to Wrestle.”

How to Trust God When Life Doesn’t Make Sense?

The Big Idea

We don’t have to understand what God is doing to trust that He’s doing what is best.

1.) Tell God Exactly How You Feel
(1:2-4)

2.) Listen for What God Says, Not Just What You Want to Hear
(2:1, 2 Peter 3:9)

3.) Your Waiting Season Is a Training Season
(2:2-3, Galatians 6:9)

4.) Worship God No Matter What Happens
(3:17-19)

Notes:

hey
These questions are here to help you lead a great small group. Whether you meet at home, at work, or at church, use this simple practice:
E – Encourage
Focus on encouraging each other. Start with a win or something good.
S – Scripture
Read the passage from Sunday out loud. Let it lead the way.
P – Pray
Use the discussion questions. End by praying together.
N – Next Step
Look for one way to help each other take a next step with Jesus.
You do not need to know it all. Just show up, stay open, and trust that God will move.
Tell about a time something didn’t go according to your plan, but ended up working out better than you expected.

When was the last time you laughed at yourself after something completely didn’t make sense in the moment?

Read Habakkuk 1:2–4. What stands out to you about the way Habakkuk talks to God? How does his honesty challenge or encourage your view of prayer?

Pastor Shawn said, “Faith doesn’t begin with pretending everything is okay; it begins by bringing everything we’re not to God.” What would it look like for you to be more honest with God in this season?

In Habakkuk 2:1–3, the prophet chooses to wait and listen instead of walking away. Why is waiting so difficult, and what might God be doing in you during the waiting?

The sermon said, “Your waiting season is a training season, God often does His best work in the background.” What’s one way God has grown your faith through a time of waiting or delay?

Read Habakkuk 3:17–18. What does it mean to “rejoice in the Lord” even when life doesn’t make sense? How can worship become an act of trust rather than just a response to blessings?
