Up to now, Saul’s attitude toward David has shifted from gratitude and admiration, to suspicion, then fear, and finally hatred. In 1 Samuel 18, Saul mainly tried to put David in positions where he could die “accidentally.” Now, Saul actively and with premeditation tries to take David’s life.
